ABSTRACT

Indonesia is a tropical area with high rainfall, the area on land is connected by around 472 large and small rivers that flow into the sea. The estuary area is the meeting area of ??rivers or fresh water streams with the ocean. Transportation of organic matter, minerals and sediments from upstream to the estuary and from the sea containing minerals, hence estuarine waters are more fertile than other areas. In addition, estuary areas are important habitats for several types of marine and freshwater organisms to fulfill their life cycles, which are used as spawning, foraging, and nursery grounds. This study aimed to determine the total organic contents, total Nitrogen, and Phosphorus in the estuary waters of Maros as a source of brackish water for fish pond aquaculture in Maros Regency. The research was conducted in the estuary waters of Maros for three months from September to November 2020. Sampling was conducted four times with an interval of once every 15 days. Sampling was carried out at five stations based on water movements to the estuary, station A was located at the seawater, station B was located in the pond wastewater locations, station C was water sources from residential waste, station D was located in the river, and station E was the estuarine water. The results showed that the dominant water quality parameters affecting estuarine water quality were salinity, total organic matter, nitrogen content, either in the form of ammonia, nitrate, or nitrite, and phosphorus content, especially phosphate. Water entering the estuary has an impact on high concentrations of total organic matter, increased concentrations of Total N, and phosphorus. The results of water quality analysis in estuaries showed that salinity, organic matter, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, and phosphate exceed the standard threshold for water quality standards for fish pond aquaculture. Thus, the waters of the Maros estuary are not suitable for aquaculture, especially for the 5 observed stations (A, B, C, D and E).

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze the effect of immediate placement of implants with extract from the new bone formation histometically. Material and Methods: In this true-experimental design with randomized post test control group, 9 mongrel dogs weighing 10 to 12 kg were used, which were divided into 3 groups, based on observation time of 14 days, 28 days and 56 days. On the installation of implants (∅3.5x10 mm) sequentially, the former socket extraction of the lower jaw's right second premolar tooth in the study sample injected 10% Aloe vera gel extract and left second left premolar tooth without injection of 10% Aloe vera extract. To compare independent groups use the Mann-Whitney test. All analysis were carried out using SPSS version 20. Results: There was an increase in the number of osteoblast cells in both treatment and control groups, but the value of the treatment group was greater. There were significant differences in the number of osteoblast cells between the treatment and control groups 14 days (p=0.019), 28 days: (p=0.018), and 56 days (p=0.009). There were no significant differences in the number of fibroblast cells between the treatment and control groups (p>0.05). But at observations 28 and 56 days, it was showed a significant difference in the number of fibroblast cells between the treatment and control groups (p=0.353 and p=0.024, respectively). Conclusion: Immediate placement of implants with 10% Aloe vera extract gel on extracted socket increases the number of osteoblasts and suppresses the number of osteoclasts and fibroblasts.

ABSTRACT

Aims@#Deoxynivalenol is a type B trichothecene produced by Fusarium graminearum that can cause serious health problems in human and livestock. The present study aimed to reduce and detoxify deoxynivalenol using a local strain Aspergillus oryzae KKB4 and Rhizopus oryzae KP1R1. @*Methodology and results@#Corn as solid substrate artificially inoculated with F. graminearum bio 163252 to produce deoxynivalenol. Deoxynivalenol contaminated corn then inoculated with A. oryzae KKB4 and R. oryzae KP1R1. During fermentation, a decrease in deoxynivalenol levels is analyzed including loss of dry matter and glucosamine content. Deoxynivalenol was extracted from the substrate by solid phase extraction and quantified using high-performance liquid chromatography. The reduction of deoxynivalenol by A. oryzae KKB4 and R. oryzae KP1R1 were 65.91% and 56.82%, respectively after ten days of fermentation. Toxicity analysis revealed that residues of deoxynivalenol were not toxic to growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells. @*Conclusion, significance and impact of study@#Local strains A. oryzae KKB4 and R. oryzae KP1R1 were able to reduce and detoxify deoxynivalenol in solid substrates. This study provides supporting data to control mycotoxin that is critical for food and feed safety.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To examine the effect of aloe vera that containing bioactive materials on the levels of calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) minerals and their ratios around the immediate implanted in alveolar bone. Material and Methods: Research method by conducting experimental test on experimental animals: 9 male mongrel dogs are divided into 3 groups each 3 tails. In each animal was pulled the second premolar teeth on right side and left side, and immediately inserted titanium implant (3mm x 10mm diameter) after the socket filled with 10% aloevera extract on the right side and control on the left side. Analysis of calcium and phosphorus minerals content formed by examination of Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) on Scanning Electron Microscope on implant and around bone tissue was done on days 14, 28 and 56. The result of statistical analysis using repeated ANOVA with independent t test. The level of significance was set at 5%. Results: There was a significant difference on calcium level between control and treatment groups on days 14, 28 and 56 (p<0.05). There was no significant difference on phosphorus level between control and treatment groups (p>0.05). The ratio of Ca / P in both control and treatment groups was also significantly different in every observation day (p<0.05). Conclusion: The addition of aloe vera extract that containing bioactive materials has an effect on increasing levels of mineral elements calcium and calciumphosphorus ratio after immediate implant insertion.
